Why the hair is not pure white
One of the first things some players notice is that Pioneer Valley hair may contain natural colour variation, from white through to the lightest caramel shades.
This is intentional. The hair is not bleached. Bleaching can make horsehair more brittle and fragile, so Pioneer Valley avoids the process. Once rosin is applied, the hair takes on the familiar lighter appearance players expect.
For workshops, this is also a useful point to explain to customers who may be accustomed to seeing a uniformly bright-white hank of hair.
