WARCHAL Amber Violin Strings

The Amber  set has been developed with the aim of achieving the sound quality of the best gut strings without any tuning instabilities. The set features W-Core®, a completely new core material developed by Warchal. The sound is rich and warm, but still has texture.

The Amber E string uses Warchal’s unique helix. This increases the longitudinal elasticity of the string, which results in a significant sound improvement and no whistling.

For violins with integrated fine tuners tailpiece choose the ball end IFT version of the E string which takes into consideration the different afterlength of the string.

WARCHAL Amber Viola Strings

The sound quality of the best gut strings without any tuning instabilities. Two A string options: metal and synthetic.

The metal core A string benefits from our helix design which gives the metal core exceptional elasticity and results in a new level of sound quality.

The synthetic core A string and the rest of the set uses our new W-Core material.

To avoid damaging strings it is essential that Warchal viola string sizes are chosen according to the vibrating string length of your instrument and not its body length. The vibrating string length is the distance between the bridge and the nut. The majority of violas have a Medium vibrating string length.

WARCHAL Amber Cello Strings

The synthetic core Amber set combines the powerful projection of metal strings with the full-bodied depth and warmth of gut.

Because any cello synthetic core A string is quite fragile, both in handling and durability, Warchal also offer a metal version of the Amber A string. It is the first time that the helix has been integrated into a cello string. Now cellists can benefit from a metal A string that, because of the increased elasticity, offers the most beautiful sound.

Synthetic cello strings offer significantly better tuning stability compared to gut strings,  though they do not match the stability of metal-core strings. During the first three days, synthetic-core cello strings will need to be tuned frequently using the pegs. As they stabilise, their full tonal character will emerge.

Once the strings have settled, you can use your fine tuners. However, because synthetic-core strings are more elastic than metal strings, fine tuners are less effective.

It is essential to have the nut and bridge perfectly set up when using synthetic strings. The grooves in the nut and bridge must not be too deep, and they must be wide enough to accommodate the string.

Amber strings for cello have lower tension than steel strings and thus have the benefit of also working very well on more fragile cellos.

These strings need about three days to settle before reaching their full tone quality.
